ACTIVITIES

Gillian has been painting botanical subjects for over thirty years. Many of her paintings are of Australian native species.

A keen gardener, she has grown many of the plants she has painted. These include exotics such as Bearded Irises and Hellebores.

She has a small rainforest in her garden and has recently painted some of these trees. Species of Dianella, Curcuma, Prostanthera and other beauties grow among the trees in a profusion of greens all year, with the bonus of flowers in their due season.

Gillian says “Workshops are a great place to meet people who share my interests.
I have friends in many places as a result of my teaching.”

Gillian regards the handing on of technical skills a social responsibility of any good artist.
“I was once asked why I give away so many of my ‘secrets’, she says.
Her friend said, “Aren’t you worried that someone might become as good as you are?”
She replied, “I would be the first to shake hands!”
