AWARDS AND CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

 

Gillian Scott was the first Australian botanical artist to win the coveted Gold Medal of the Royal Horticultural Society (U.K.) in open international competition with her display of 22 species of Australian mistletoes.

There are over 80 species of mistletoes in Australia and many of them are endemic. Gillian travelled to many parts of the continent to collect the specimens she painted.

Subsequently Gillian was commissioned to paint pictures for the Hunt Museum of Botanical Documentation (Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh) and for Dr Shirley Sherwood’s famous collection of contemporary botanical art.

On a previous visit to London Gillian was invited to become a founding member of The Society for Botanical Art, the first of its kind.

She is currently a member of the Botanical Art Society of Australia Inc. and the Botanical Artists’ Society of Queensland Inc.

Botanical Paintings by Gillian have been awarded a number of prizes by Botanical Art societies including The Botanical Art Society of Australia.
